background:
A long, long time ago the giant robot god Primus created a planet known as Cybertron (or rather his body WAS the planet itself as he is a transforming machine too) and mechanical race of lifeforms in order to protect life from an evil force known as Unicorn. The first among these were the thirteen, the original Cybertronians. Something happened to cause one of them to turn on Primus and the others and he was cast out – becoming known as the Fallen. Other Cybertornians descended from the original thirteen, though how their initial creation happened was lost after millions of years.
Eventually the thirteen and Primus himself became nothing more than a religion believed mostly by a large portion of Cybertronians known as Autobots. Little did most of them realize that they pretty much lived on their god's transformed body and consumed his "blood." (Cybertronians live off of a fuel source known as Energon, and on planet the Energon they harvested was from the planet itself and ... you get the idea.)
The Autobots controlled Cybertron via a government ruler (a Prime) and the Council of ancients.
Over the years the government became corrupt and was even infiltrated by an outside force (known as the Quintessens) who wanted to take over Cybertron and turn it's people into slaves. A lone warrior known as Megatron figured out something was going on and that the government was hiding things. He became a gladiator and rose to popularity, feeding upon those discontented with how society treated them. He promised glory and power and said that some Cybertronians were made for much more than they were limited to. He eventually formed his own faction known as the Decepticon and started an uprising against the Autobots. Very few people knew that this uprising was actually a distraction to find out the truth behind the planet. (He believed the planet was a mobile fortress to be used for conquest.)
Starscream was originally a scientist who got into arena fighting and fell in with Megatron and his ideas. He was actually one of the first recruited to Megatron's group and carried out many of the main missions.
During these beginning battles, the Decepticons were able to kill the Prime in charge of Cybertron (Sentinel) to try and get the mystical artifact known as the Matrix of Leadership. He, however, did not have it at the time and after his death Cybertron (yes the planet) itself picked a young archivist known as Optronix to be the next Prime. He became known as Optimus Prime and the new leader of the Autobots. The war went on and on, and eventually Megatron got shanked by the Matrix and lost his memory of why he originally started the war at all. He also went crazy and both himself and and Optimus ended up vanishing for over 100,000 years.
And then Starscream tried to take over the Decepticons because he does this a lot.
Of course that didn't last because Megatron and Optimus showed back up and Starscream got put in a tank with metal eating fish.Because Megatron is mean like that.He got out later because Grimlock liked to smash things and after ruining Megatron's plans again things went back to normal.
Except that Cybertron was running low on energy. The Autobots decided leave the planet because otherwise they'd all end up dying as a species, Megatron took a group of Decepticons and followed. Both ships ended up crashing on Earth and they all stayed in stasis for four million years. And then basically the G1 cartoon happened, or at least the comics assumes you've seen G1 and know the drift of things. When an eruption woke them, they went back to killing each other, only this time on earth.
On Earth, Starscream served as Megatron's second in command though he spent a lot of time trying to assassinate his leader and take over. For some reason Megatron was fascinated by Starscream's behavior instead of being disturbed by it and let it continue. The war continued on Earth for years (though there was a brief spot where a lot of them ended up back on Cybertron because Shockwave took over when no one was looking. Starscream took the opportunity to blast Megatron into space while all of this was going on. In the end, he even rebelled against Shockwave's new world order and took most of the Decepticons with him back to Earth.Because who wants to live under Shockwave's rule anyway. And you know it's bad when Soundwave picks Starscream over Shockwave.).
A few years after this, there were more misadventures on Earth, including Starscream dealing with a crazy religious clone of himself and Jetfire who was a completely complicated matter.Starscream may have saved an Autobot during this time. And that's where our story ends.
personality:
Starscream is an extremely arrogant, jealous, egotistical and overly ambitious person. He does not get along well with others and holds himself above everyone else.
The problem is, Starscream is rather good at what he does – it's actually one of the few reasons he manages to be able to mouth off to Megatron and not have his head shot off. He's very intelligent and extremely skilled in flight, science, and combat.
At the start of the war he turned rather brutal for awhile, killing and being attributed to a lot of atrocities those who knew him before the war would have never thought him capable of. After millions of years into the war, he mellowed out a bit from his erratic and reckless and cruel behavior. He does not really kill pointlessly and without reason. He wouldn't murder all life on Earth or destroy the planet because he wouldn't see the point in doing so.
However, he is also highly arrogant about his own abilities and overestimates himself most of the time causing him to sometimes fail. His failures do little to deter him, as surely doing it a second time will result in success.
Because of his nature, he tends to drift into having a one track mind (such as assassinating Megatron and taking over the Decepticons which has actual caused him to become rather infamous in a way.) He's not only stubborn but extremely persistent.
Which is ironic in a way since he has little to no patience for anything else. He does not like waiting for anything. If he wants something, he wants it now, not tomorrow, not the next day, now. But at the same time he has learned to wait for opportunities to reveal themselves. Even though he backtalks a lot, makes endless taunts, he will not openly and directly challenge anyone he knows is more powerful than him.
Some use this to refer to him as a coward.
He prefers to see himself as an opportunist instead.
As highly as Starscream thinks of himself, he actually is not completely vain. He doesn't like pain, or getting damaged in battle, but in war it happens. Besides, he also believes he looks better than everyone else no matter what anyway. He is shallow about other people's looks, however. And he will tell someone if he thinks they are ugly.
One trait that most of the Decepticon army would probably point out that he has is: Starscream loves to hear himself talk. Sometimes he will not shut up. He'll go on about how he should be leader or how Megatron comes up with stupid plans or just how Megatron himself is stupid. Above all else, Starscream is a chronic complainer.
And he goes out of his way to be annoying. If Starscream discovers something that bothers another person, he will pick at it and push every button he can until the other person snaps. He's highly sarcastic and makes comments about everything.
He might even be a little over dramatic about life as well.
Due to his ambitious personality and quest for leadership, he has been often labeled as traitor. He would never consider himself anything else other than a Decepticon, but he is hardly loyal to Megatron at all. Though even with all his claims, he's less concerned with the group than the goal at hand. He will team up with an enemy for a common need. The end result overrides factions. If someone is of use to him, he doesn't care who they are, what species, or anything like that.
Even with all his negative traits, Starscream still managed to become close to Jetfire who was the exact opposite. Calm, understanding, patient – everything Starscream wasn't. Yet their personalities complimented each other in a way and they just learned to deal with each other's differences. Jetfire is one of the few who has the ability to still influence him (he's also one of the few who even knows how to handle his personality in the first place). Jetfire joining the Autobots brought about a great deal of hatred from Starscream though that was eventually redirected back towards Megatron. In the end their past friendship proved to be stronger than that which originally divided them. Starscream still does have some semblance of a conscience, but it is only through his former friend that he really ever shows it.
powers and abilities:
Robot and other things - Starscream is roughly 28 feet tall, which gives him a significant level of strength compared to normal organic humans. However compared to another Cybertronian he's about average in size in size and strength. He is skilled in fighting though which makes up for his lack of brute strength. Cybertornians from his universe have an internal regeneration circuitry system, which is similar to the healing process in humans. He can recover from almost any sort of injury given enough time and energy (which like humans enough time + energy is usually a problem in a war). His body is also composed of ambient absorption circuits, which means he can recharge by being around compatible energy without consuming it or he can take an energon bath and get robo-drunk.
Transformation - He transforms into an F-15 Eagle fighter jet. In this mode he can reach at least Mach 2.8 in speed and can break through the atmosphere of most planets given enough time. He is considered one of the fastest fliers in the Decepticon army, though his speeds can sometimes undermine his gyro-sensors and leave him disoriented. This mainly happens in cases of doing extreme nose dives.
Null Ray - The Null Ray is Starscream's primary weapon. It is delivered through cannons attached to the sides of his arms. The blast can affect the flow of electricity in any mechanical system, though it works the best on other Cybertronians. It incapacitates a mech's ability to process power and basically shuts down their mind. These effects are usually non-fatal and last roughly two minutes before a mech or device will start to recover. However, the null ray can cause permanent damage if used at a high level of power or by extended blasts. TLDR; While it normally isn't used to kill anyone it can be that way if needed.
Cluster bombs - He can also launch cluster bombs from various places that can level an area of 10,000 square feet.
Aberrant Spark - For unknown reasons Starscream's spark is not like most. It is virtually indestructible and cannot be extinguished through most known means (you can cut into it, try and crush it, etc). His body can still be destroyed, however and it is still possible to inflict serious pain on his body and spark. It just won't ever go out. Without a body, he is able to possess other living life forms (organic or mechanical) and in most cases take control (though it depends on the will of the person he's trying to possess.)And if the TFCC Thrustinator toy is to be believed, the Starscream immortality can be transferred to other sparks by them getting all touchy with each other.Starscream has no idea about any of this, and probably won't ever find out for a long, long period of time. But if it does, I'm having him possess a little girl ala Kiss Players.

infinity gem: Power Gem
Above anything else, power is the one thing Starscream most desires. He wants to be in charge and have others worship him. He doesn't care if that is through fear or endearment, just as long as he is the one on top. He ultimately feels he is the most deserving as all others are inferior in various different ways and thus below him.

log sample:
An exasperated huff escaped Starscream's vocal unit when a small individual arrived to let him know he could now speak a Continuum Cortex Staff person. Whoever they were. He didn't pay much attention to those sort of things, he just hoped they could give him some answers. And not stupid answers. Ones he could actually use.
Or he would squish every last organic thing in the area.
And even if he didn't actually do that, he'd think about it. A lot.
He was actually considering this very idea as he looked down at the messenger – how easy it would be. He could just flick the guy and watch his body against the wall. In fact, the smirk playing on his features probably gave away his more sinister thoughts as the person quickly excused himself. Starscream watched him rush off with some slight amusement.
But that amusement only distracted him so long before he turned towards the area he needed to go to. His gaze narrowed – this would either be interesting or deeply annoying. He wasn't sure which to expect. But as he started walking forward, an air of confidence washed over him, and those thoughts drifted.
It didn't matter. Either way, he'd make sure this would be somewhat fun, for him.
He stepped through the doorway and only paused for a brief moment and said “You know, you really need a better architect. Or maybe you could just hand out maps. Either way, this place needs a little work, don'tcha think?”
